With an increase in the displacement of thousands of people and persistent feuds among leaders, violent extremist groups hold a sturdy footing. Other challenges result from porous borders, established smuggling routes and limited law enforcement capabilities. The primary obstacles and threats in the region overall is the lack of regional cooperation, unstable governance and the lack of legislation and resources.
