National strategies and action plans

We assist governments in developing and implementing comprehensive National Action Plans and strategies to counter extremism and violent extremism.

We support governments in the design, review, implementation, and evaluation in order to comprehensively and effectively respond to extremism and violent extremism in the national and local contexts. The action plans and strategies are important tools to support national and local governments, international organizations and civil society organizations in the coordination and implementation of efforts to address extremism and violent extremism.

In 2015, the United Nations Secretary-General launched the Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, which recommended; “each Member State should consider developing a national plan of action to prevent violent extremism which sets national priorities for addressing the local drivers”.  This gave further impetus to Hedayah’s work.

Through a holistic and inclusive process, we provide this expertise through capacity building, technical support, advisory services, awareness-raising, and review and revision services. We also facilitate input from relevant cross-government, local government and civil society actors, to achieve a National Action Plan that effectively reduces the threat of extremism and violent extremism.
