Countering Violent Extremism Intervention Programs
The Australian Government is working with relevant state and territory government agencies to develop and implement intervention programs to identify radicalized and at-risk individuals, and provide effective diversion, referral and support programs. The intervention programs involve developing individually-tailored case management plans to connect individuals with services such as mentoring and coaching, counselling, education and employment support. The programs are underpinned by a robust set of risk assessment and needs analysis tools and can be applied to returning foreign terrorist fighters.
Australia’s CVE intervention programs help to assess the level of an individual’s radicalization to violent extremism and provide a framework for appropriate intervention responses across the four phases identified in The Hague—Marrakech Memorandum. The ‘detection’ function for these areas is largely driven by intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
