Curriculum and Toolkit Consultant

Hedayah is currently leading research activities and tool development on a global project related to education and countering extremism and violent extremism. This role will be dedicated to developing a monitoring and evaluation toolkit for education and countering extremism projects as well as a training of trainers curriculum for policymakers and educators working in the space.  These outputs will be in support of the global initiative.

Principal Responsibilities

This is a project-related role, contributing to a major project on education and countering extremism and violent extremism. The Consultant will be responsible for the following specific duties at the direction of the Director of Programs, Research and Analysis Program Manager as well as the Capacity Building Program Manager: 

Output 1. 

  • Utilise newly produced research to aid in the production of a monitoring and evaluation framework;
  • Identify and summarise lessons learnt and case studies to inform and complement the proposed framework; 
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to undergo several rounds of review on the framework and its supporting documents. 

Output 2.  

  • Develop a trainer-of-trainers curriculum for policymakers and educators;  
  • Utilise new research as well as existing academic literature to reference the curriculum; 
  • Present the curriculum in a structured and well-organised PowerPoint presentation format; 
  • Produce a comprehensive facilitator guide to support potential trainers in delivering the curriculum; 
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to undergo several rounds of review on the curriculum and its supporting documents. 

Additional responsibilities:  

  • Support specific project-related activities when required, such as presenting work to stakeholders and engaging with peer reviewers.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Qualifications:

  • An advanced level university degree (Masters Degree or academic equivalent) in International Relations, Political Science, Social Sciences, Terrorism Studies or related field. 

Work Experience:

  • 10 years of academic or professional experience related to education and countering extremism and violent extremism is essential; 
  • Five years of experience producing technical curricula based on new research and academic sources is essential; 
  • Several years of international experience of working in monitoring and evaluation within the field of countering extremism and violent extremism is essential; 
  • Proven experience in producing innovative yet practical toolkits for policymakers and practitioners; 
  • Proven experience in receiving and addressing feedback from multiple stakeholders with differing perspectives; 
  • Demonstrable experience in presenting and defending outputs to high-level, international stakeholders;  
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team is required; 
  • Ability to manage internal and external relationships with diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and discretion is required; 
  • Ability to meet deadlines on assigned activities in a fast-paced environment is required; 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to consume large amounts of data to produce clear and concise outputs; 
  • Take ownership of outputs from inception through to completion; 
  • Ability to constructively defend and debate outputs with internal and external stakeholders; 
  • Excellent command of written and oral English. Knowledge of a second language (e.g. French or Arabic) is an asset;

Special Considerations

  • The contract will be deliverables based and salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and skills. Most of the deliverables should be completed between October 2024 and December 2025 but small follow-up deliverables are required between January and early April 2025; 
  • The position will be largely remote;  
  • Potential requirement to travel to Abu Dhabi (UAE) to collaborate with colleagues (circa later 2024) and potential requirement to travel to project’s closing conference (location tbc, dates likely to be in spring 2025) to present outputs;
