Police Academy Curriculum

Date 22 March 2015
Location Italy
From 22-24 March 2015, Hedayah and the US Institute of Peace organized a training on community-oriented policing for CVE in Vicenza, Italy.  The course was organized by the Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units (CoESPU), a training center and academy of the Carabinieri police force.
Participants from Pakistan and Tunisia explored the role of community-oriented policing techniques in CVE, and brainstormed ways in which these techniques can be integrated into existing training for their police academies.
The interactive sessions focused some of the main challenges for integrating community policing techniques into existing academies, including the lack of political knowledge on community policing techniques. The participants also brainstormed strategies for overcoming these challenges and created a plan for implementation.
Finally, participants also discussed re-branding the police force in their countries to re-inforce the idea of the police as a trusted community partner with the aim of protecting the people from crime, including violent extremism and terrorism.
