From 7- 8 December 2014, Hedayah in collaboration with Curtin University, People against Violent Extremism (PaVE) and the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade co-hosted the CVE Research Conference 2014 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The conference highlighted most recent research trends in CVE. The intent is for this event to be held annually, and to provide a platform for CVE researchers to share the most current, up-to-date analysis of CVE on an international scale. This meeting opened up opportunities to examine the global CVE effort from a wider strategic level, encouraged sharing of new approaches and directions in CVE, and coordinated the global CVE efforts for research.
The CVE Research Conference 2014 was based on an idea generated at the CVE Symposium 2013, hosted by Curtin University, PaVE, Macquarie University and Hedayah in Perth, Western Australia. CVE Symposium 2013 was Australia’s first national and international dialogue on countering violent extremism. The two-day event brought together national and international scholars, practitioners, policy makers and former extremists for two days to workshop, discuss, and debate the current state and future directions for CVE.
The conference participants included governments, policymakers from 30 countries (particularly ministries with a research focus); research institutions and universities; practitioners working on CVE research and grant foundations.
As a product of the conference, an edited volume of short (5-10 page) essays produced by the speakers will be co-published by Hedayah and Curtin University on the topics that were identified and discussed at the conference.
