INTERN – FINANCE DEPARTMENT
Hedayah is the International Centre of Excellence for Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Formed in response to the call by the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF), representing 29 countries and the European Union, to establish an independent, multilateral ‘think and do’ tank devoted to supporting global efforts in countering extremism and preventing terrorism through the sharing of good practice, research, toolkits, communications, dialogue, training, workshops, and policy discussions. The vision and purpose of Hedayah is to see a global reduction in extremism and violent extremism. This is achieved through programs, research, resources, and advice that equip governments and civil society to design, implement, and monitor effective and sustainable approaches to terrorism prevention.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
At Hedayah, the Finance Department ensures effective financial management, compliance, and transparency in line with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. It oversees budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and day-to-day financial operations, while supporting audits, donor compliance, and informed decision-making through accurate financial analysis and controls.
The Finance Department intern will:
- Maintain filing system (hard copies)
- Ensure supporting documents are filed correctly by donor/project codes
- Support in preparing grant approval forms for credit card payments
- Organize and scan financial records for audit

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain an organized and up-to-date hard copy filing system for all financial records.
- Ensure that all supporting documents (invoices, receipts, contracts, and approvals) are accurately filed and labeled according to donor and project codes.
- Provide support in the preparation and documentation of grant approval forms, particularly for credit card–related expenditures, ensuring completeness and compliance with donor requirements.
- Organize, scan, and archive financial records in a systematic manner to facilitate internal reviews and external audits, ensuring easy retrieval and audit readiness.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Students enrolled in a university or other accredited institution, or at a graduate or postgraduate level; recent graduates or postgraduates, i.e. currently enrolled or within one year of graduation; with a background in any finance-related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- No specific working experience in the field required.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
REQUIRED:
- Basic understanding of accounting and finance principles
- Strong organizational and filing skills with attention to detail
- Ability to manage documents accurately and follow donor/project coding structures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
- Basic knowledge of financial documentation (invoices, receipts, approvals)
- Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Willingness to learn and follow internal policies and procedures
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills for coordination with finance staff and other departments
- Interest in working in an international, multicultural environment.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Please note this internship role is not remunerated.
- Please note this internship role is entirely on-site (offline). Travel costs are supported for this role.
- The internship will be 6 months in length and a total of a minimum of two to three working days per week, although this could be increased pending the candidate’s availability.
Timeframes would ideally be availability from 1 February – 1 August 2026.
