Exploring trends and research in countering and preventing extremism & violent extremism
The threat of radicalization and extremism continues to jeopardize global security, and the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced new challenges. To address these evolving issues, Hedayah’s International Research Conference, held in May 2022 in Granada, Spain, brought together academics and practitioners. This conference featured a compilation of research essays covering various topics related to countering and preventing extremism, offering insights and cutting-edge findings. The event aims to bridge the gap between academic rigor and practical expertise, making research results available to policymakers and practitioners. The conference addressed themes such as COVID-19’s impact on extremism, internet and technology’s role, environmental changes, the rise of the radical right, and ethical challenges in research. It served as a platform for engaging discussions, sharing novel ideas, and exploring innovative methodologies. The conference was sponsored by the Government of Spain and co-organized by various institutions, including the Euro-Arab Foundation and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
