Undermining Violent Extremist Narratives in The Middle East and North Africa

The Middle East and North African (MENA) region has long faced challenges from extremism and violent extremism, with groups such as Daesh posing significant security threats.

The rise of Daesh and its ability to recruit from MENA populations have been particularly alarming, exacerbated by the group’s use of online and offline propaganda to spread its ideology.

In response, this How-To Guide aims to support practitioners, policymakers, and community organizations in the MENA region by offering practical tools and strategies to develop more effective alternative and counter-narratives against extremist and violent extremist propaganda. Drawing on extensive research, expert consultations, and regional insights, the publication provides guidance on undermining extremist messaging, both online and offline, and features real-world examples of counter-narrative initiatives available in multiple languages.

The guide is available in English and Arabic.
