Intern – Research & Analysis Department
Hedayah is the International Centre of Excellence for Countering Extremism and Violent Extremism, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Formed in response to the call by the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), representing 31 countries and the European Union, to establish an independent, multilateral ‘think and do’ tank devoted to supporting global efforts in countering extremism and preventing terrorism through the sharing of good practice, research, toolkits, communications, dialogue, training, workshops, and policy discussions. The vision and purpose of Hedayah is to see a global reduction in extremism and violent extremism. This is achieved through programs, research, resources, and advice that equip governments and civil society to design, implement, and monitor effective and sustainable approaches to terrorism prevention.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Research and Analysis Intern will be working with the Research and Analysis Department (RAD). At Hedayah, RAD conducts, publishes and shares relevant, high-quality CEVE research and integrates this into Hedayah’s programs and the global evidence base, supporting Hedayah’s role as a thought leader in CEVE. The intern will support ongoing research activities and related communications and administration, in order to gain experience on how an international organization functions, and broaden their understanding of global efforts in CEVE.
The intern may: conduct data collection and desk research on relevant topics, contribute to drafting reports, support knowledge management, and assist with planning, logistics and administration tasks, in addition to helping the department achieve its overall objectives in alignment with the intern’s professional goals and Hedayah’s needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support existing research projects and activities within the department, including knowledge sharing activities such as workshops, webinars, and Hedayah’s International Research Conference;
- Conduct literature review and desk research on CEVE-related topics in support of ongoing programs or projects;
- Assist with knowledge management and resource development, including collecting and/or reviewing research materials related to CEVE in different contexts;
- Provide administrative support, including note-taking, data entry and management, logistical support, or other planning and organizational efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Applicants should be enrolled in the final academic year of an undergraduate program, or enrolled in any year of a postgraduate program, or are recent graduates within two years of graduation, with a background in social and political sciences, international relations, security studies, criminology, education, humanities and area studies, strategic communications, behavioural science, or any CEVE-related field.
Experience:
- No specific working experience in the field of CEVE required

Required:
- Fluent in English
- Excellent research, writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work remotely, autonomously, and in a team with the ability to perform various tasks and think creatively
- Results-driven, proactive, adaptable, with the ability to shift priorities and meet deadlines
- Ability to work in an international, multicultural, and neutral environment
Preferred:
- Interest in CEVE, counter-terrorism, international relations or related fields is preferred
- Fluency in other languages, such as Arabic, French and Russian, will be considered an asset
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS / LOGISTICS
- Please note this internship role is not remunerated.
- Please note this internship role is entirely remote, unless the candidate is already based in the UAE. Travel costs are not supported for this role.
- This internship will be for a minimum period of two (2) months, with the possibility of extension.
- Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week during the internship period, and to be online for at least two hours per day within Hedayah’s working day (i.e. from 9am to 5pm UAE time [Gulf Standard Time]) regardless of their location of working.
- While start and end dates for the internship are flexible and can be negotiated at the time of offer, the preferred timeframe for availability is between 1st February 2026 and 30 June 2026.
